How my adventure as a Performance Marketeer began
My adventure at Social Hippo started in an unexpected but wonderful way. When I applied, there was no vacancy for a Performance Marketeer in sight. I was actually looking for a role as a Content Creator. But after an inspiring conversation with Judy, the perfect role emerged for me: Performance Marketeer.
The beauty of this job is that it combines my analytical skills and my creative side perfectly. I've always been naturally good at analysing figures and data, but I also love the creative challenges this role brings. It feels like I've finally found a place where I can bring the best of both worlds together. At Social Hippo I get the space to use my analytical insight while letting my creativity run free.
Who would have thought a simple job interview would lead to a tailor-made dream job? 😉
A day in the life of a Performance Marketeer
Every day starts with a fixed ritual for me: a cup of coffee or tea. As soon as I've had my caffeine shot, I dive into my emails, WhatsApp messages and Teams chats.
With my inbox tidied up, I make a list of to-dos for the day. I always start with the small tasks to clear some room for the bigger projects. It feels a bit like tidying your desk before the real work starts. 😉 After that I throw myself enthusiastically at the bigger challenges.
Meetings are a constant in my daily routine. Internally we meet to share ideas, discuss strategies and keep each other up to date on the latest developments. But the real action starts with client meetings. Here we discuss the performance of running campaigns, analyse the results and brainstorm about how to make them even better. These conversations are always dynamic and offer the perfect mix of feedback and creative input.
The alternation between analytical work and creative projects keeps me sharp and makes sure I'm always challenged. In between there's of course time for a chat or a joke with the other Hippos, because a bit of fun at work should never be missing. 😉
That's what a typical day as a Performance Marketeer looks like: a mix of strategic thinking, creative solutions and a healthy dose of communication. And I wouldn't want it any other way. 😁
What makes the job so much fun
What do I like most about my job? Without a doubt, the variety in our client base. Every client brings their own story, their own challenges and their own goals. That means no two days are the same, which makes the work incredibly dynamic and engaging.
Picture this: one day I'm working on a campaign for a hip start-up selling sustainable products, and the next I'm diving into the world of an established corporate that wants to promote its latest innovative technology. It's a bit like opening a new book every day, each with its own plot and characters.
What I genuinely love is that every client needs a different approach. What works for one client can turn out completely differently for another. It's constantly searching, puzzling and testing to discover what works best. That variety keeps me sharp and makes sure I never fall into a routine. ✅
The main tasks of a Performance Marketeer
As a Performance Marketeer at Social Hippo my day is filled with a diverse mix of tasks, which is why no two days are alike.
- Meetings: first and foremost there are meetings — and believe me, they come in all shapes and sizes. From the first introduction with a client during the intake, where we discuss their wishes and goals, to the regular follow-up sessions. In those follow-ups we evaluate the performance of running campaigns and look together at how to make them even better. That's the moment we really dive into the numbers and sharpen strategies.
- Building campaigns: setting up campaigns is one of the most exciting parts of my job. Whether it's a small engagement campaign to create some extra buzz, or a large-scale conversion campaign for an online shop, every campaign is a new project with its own unique challenges.
- Building and evaluating reports: this is a crucial part of my work. After launching a campaign I keep a close eye on performance. I analyse the data to see what's working well and where there's room for improvement. It gives me a kick when I see a small adjustment having a big positive effect. 📈
- Teamwork: of course I don't do all of this alone. Working with the team is essential. The design of the ads goes to our Graphic Designer, while the ad copy is in the capable hands of our Content Marketeers. In the beginning I did a lot of this work myself, which gave me a good understanding of the processes. That now helps me give the right feedback and make sure everything fits the client's wishes perfectly. Working across departments turns every campaign into a genuine team project. We brainstorm, we laugh and sometimes we sigh together as deadlines approach. But in the end we make sure every campaign we set up becomes a success. 🚀
Essential qualities for a Performance Marketeer
If you think you're the perfect candidate for the role of Performance Marketeer at Social Hippo, there are a few essential qualities you definitely need. 👇
- Being creative is absolutely necessary. You need to be able to come up with and develop concepts that are both appealing and effective. That means sometimes thinking outside the box to create unique campaigns that stand out in the crowded world of social media.
- Creativity alone isn't enough. Analytical thinking is just as important. You need to be able to analyse reports and campaigns thoroughly to see what works well and what could be better. It's about understanding the numbers and making strategic decisions based on them. If you love decoding data and your eyes light up at a beautiful chart, this role is really for you. 😅
- Resilience under pressure is another must-have. Deadlines and high client expectations are part of daily life. It's important that you stay calm under pressure and keep a cool head. Sometimes it feels like the whole world is on your shoulders, but that's exactly the moment when you need to perform at your best.
- Punctual and structured work is crucial too. Accuracy matters, because one small mistake can have a big impact on a campaign's results. You need to be organised and have an eye for detail to make sure everything runs smoothly.
- Finally, strong communication skills are indispensable in this role. You work closely with the team and have a lot of client contact. You need to be able to communicate clearly what needs to happen, both internally and externally. Whether it's a briefing with the Graphic Designer or a presentation to the client, you always need to convey the plan clearly and convincingly. ✅
In other words: it's a challenging role that keeps you on your toes, but one you can get an enormous amount of satisfaction from.
