What is Clubhouse and why is it good for your business?

Maybe the name 'Clubhouse' rings a bell, maybe it doesn't at all. Either way, we'd like to briefly explain what you can do with this popular app. Clubhouse is currently trending thanks to its unique character. This social platform is a mix between interesting talks and casual conversations. Clever of Clubhouse… So clever, in fact, that both Facebook and Twitter are working hard on similar platforms to keep up with this fast-growing app.

What is Clubhouse?

You can use this app to listen to or hold live conversations. The listening aspect without visuals is reminiscent of a podcast platform, but because you as a listener can genuinely respond and join in, you also get a 'social media feeling'. So you can hold live conversations and follow audio conferences in virtual rooms.

Ideal for making new contacts and finding inspiration.

How exactly does Clubhouse work?

In Clubhouse you can join different rooms, and in those virtual rooms you'll find speakers and listeners. The concept is simple: if you as a listener have a question or want to say something, you raise your virtual hand and you're given the floor. The conversations aren't recorded and therefore can't be listened back to afterwards — and that's exactly what makes this app so authentic. You have to be there. #FOMO

No more invite-only

In February 2021 Clubhouse reached around 9 million downloads worldwide in a single month. Even celebrities such as Elon Musk and Oprah Winfrey could be heard on Clubhouse in heavily attended panel conversations. For a long time you could only use Clubhouse if you got an invitation from another user. But a few months ago the developers of the popular app decided to open it up to everyone. Concretely: the invite-only policy was scrapped and anyone can now use the app.

Why is Clubhouse interesting for your business?

Facts are facts. You get tons of inspiration by listening to all the other entrepreneurs and speakers. Detailed interviews with experts, but also Q&As on specific topics… As an entrepreneur you can learn a lot from Clubhouse and you can even bring in leads with it.

Getting started with Clubhouse as an entrepreneur

Downloaded the app? Good. By writing a strong bio you make sure other users immediately know who you are, what you do and who your audience is. Tip: the first three lines of your text matter most, because that's what gets you invited to conversations. A clearly recognisable profile picture is a must too.

Now you can start hosting your own rooms and talking about your field. Give tips, organise interesting discussions, and that's how you claim your authority and grow your network. Define your topic, choose a compelling title and give a short description of your room. That's how you catch the attention of potential customers. Tip: make sure your room is genuinely attractive and play into users' FOMO. Be careful though, because on Clubhouse the focus is on building a relationship with your audience. Share your expertise and definitely don't put the emphasis on SELLING.

One-on-ones are decisive. Has someone asked a question in a room about a topic you know a lot about? Send that user a message through another social channel to continue the conversation. Tip: focus above all on helping the person you're talking to — the rest follows by itself.

Conclusion

Clubhouse is a great app for recreational use but also for professional purposes. Will you get an enormous amount of sales out of it? Probably not. But it is a huge boost for your brand awareness, your company's image, and you build a real community. Plenty of advantages, then.
