What does a content creator do?

What does a content creator do?

The terms social media and content creator go hand in hand. In one of our earlier blogs we explained exactly what a social media manager does. Now it's the content creator's turn: which tasks are on their to-do list, what responsibilities come with it and, above all, which talents do you need to be a kickass content creator? Let's talk about it.

Creative as part of a team

Within our company we count no fewer than three content creators — and that's absolutely necessary to keep all our clients' socials on point. The idea is that a content creator literally creates content to post on our clients' social media pages. We're talking about a catchy caption, but also a striking visual that fits the text of the social media post perfectly. Check!

Preparation and research

A content creator first reads up properly: which client am I working for, how do they want to reflect their business in the digital world and what is their personal style? This differs from client to client and is very dynamic and variable. Every business also has a different reason for choosing to have their social media managed by experts. Some entrepreneurs don't have the time and others can't find the inspiration. There are also businesses that outsource their social media because they don't have enough technical knowledge to do it themselves.

That's why at Social Hippo we think carefully about our clients' motivations and above all their end goals. What does company X or Y want to achieve by bringing us in for their social media management? Do they want more followers, more sales or a bond with their virtual audience? Is it more about boosting brand awareness, do they want more online visibility, or is it simply extremely important for them to be active on social media and show up professionally?

Together with the whole team we think about a content strategy, and that's how we arrive at a rock-solid plan to put the business in question in the spotlight through their own social media channels. Now that's dedication.

Caption it

The social media manager takes care of a fun, varied content calendar and comes up with good topics for the social media posts that are automatically published on our clients' business profiles. After that it's the content creator's job to take all the available information and any input from the client and turn it into an awesome social media post. The caption is of course one of the main characters in this whole story, and our content creators bring out their best copywriting skills for it. Even in several languages.

Our requirements for a kickass social media caption:

  • Short but powerful
  • Easy to read
  • Triggering for followers
  • Without spelling or grammatical errors
  • Optionally with a call to action or an activity to drive engagement
  • Optionally adding relevant hashtags (depending on the platform)

If these six points can be ticked off, we're talking about a good caption that will almost certainly leave a good impression on readers.

Visualise it

A kickass caption of course also needs a striking, eye-catching visual. Something that immediately grabs your followers' attention as they scroll through their feed. The content creator processes and edits photos supplied by clients into the ideal format for social media, looks for a fitting and high-quality stock photo, or makes a graphic design that matches the written text perfectly. Designs are usually used for posts working with a quote or a tip.

That's how the content creator builds a social media post with everything it needs to show off your company's services or products beautifully.

Read and approved

The social media manager then proofreads the post and checks whether it meets all the client's requirements and conditions. Once the post is approved internally, it's sent to the client for final approval and any feedback — which is then processed by the content creator. Solid.

Creativity in copywriting and design

Our content creators fill their days with far more than making social media posts. The content creators in our team are creative all-rounders, one by one, and often come up with catchy slogans, good names for tools or new features, and they're also very good at writing and designing newsletters and blogs.

Conclusion

A content creator is generally someone who's at home in many markets. Someone with a fluent pen who hates spelling mistakes, is mad about wordplay and also has an eye for graphic and visual design. A vessel full of creativity with just one goal: making you shine on social media.
